George Washington

Washington & Lafayette at Valley Forge
Valley Forge–Washington & Lafayette. Winter 1777-78. Copy of engraving by H. B. Hall after Alonzo Chappel. ARC Identifier: 532877. From Wikipedia.

George Washington never visited France — I’ve read somewhere that he was embarrassed to go to a place where he wouldn’t be able to speak the language. He was, nevertheless, made an honorary French citizen, has a street named after him, and has a statue (with Lafayette) in the Place des Etats-Unis, and a statue all to himself in Place Iena.
