Île aux Cygnes (Copy of the Statue of Liberty)

The Statue of Liberty on the Ile aux Cygnes.

It’s a bit disorienting the first time you see the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower together, but don’t let it freak you out — there is a reduced-size (but still pretty big) copy of the Statue of Liberty on the Île aux Cygnes. According to Hillairet, this replica was made by Collas, and was unveiled on May 12, 1885.

The plaque says, roughly:

The Plaque at the base of the statue says:
CETTE STATUE A ÉTÉ OFFERTE A LA VILLE DE PARIS
PAR LA COMMUNAUTÉ PARISIENNE
DES ETATS_UNIS D’AMERIQUE.
ELLE A ETE RESTAUREE PAR LA VILLE DE PARIS
AVEC LE CONCOURS DE LA FONDATION FLORENCE GOULD.
A L’OCCASION DU CENTENAIRE
DE LA STATUE DE LA LIBERTE.
23 JUIN 1986

THIS STATUE WAS GIVEN TO THE CITY OF PARIS
BY THE AMERICAN COMMUNITY
OF PARIS

IT WAS RESTORED BY THE CITY OF PARIS
WITH THE AID OF THE FLORENCE GOULD FOUNDATION
FOR THE OCCASION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.

23 JUNE 1986.

The view from the Pont de Grenelle is amusing.
