  1. It’s funny what sticks in the mind. We definitely did a vocabulary lesson on jobs when I took French in school, and even though I probably hadn’t seen “facteur” since then, it stuck with me.

    I also remember “pompier” for firefighter. I’ve noticed “sapeurs-pompiers” on fire stations, but we never had the “sapeurs” part. “Pompier” is clearly “pumper”, although I didn’t think of that at the time. I’m still not sure what “sapeur” is.

  2. I’d never heard of this. I was hoping it was something about a postman who was a horse, but it turned out to be just a postman named Horse.

    1. If you knew that a ‘facteur’ as a postman you’re already doing better than I. I thought it was something like “the perfect palace from the point of view of its horses…”
