Lafayette’s grave at the Picpus Cemetery.

Lafayette is buried at the Picpus Cemetery.

When General John Pershing led the American Expeditionary Forces in Paris, they visited here. He is reputed to have announced “Lafayette, we have arrived!”

If you happen to be in Paris on July 4th, there is often a celebration here.

The text says “In memory of General Lafayette. 1757-1834. Gift of the Benjamin Franklin chapter Paris Daughters of the American Revolution.”
A plaque commemorating General John Pershing’s visit to the Picpus Cemetery during World War I. It says, roughly, “In memory of the arrival of General Pershing and the American Army in France, July 1917. Gift of the Benjamin Franklin chapter, Paris Daughters of the American Revolution.”
