ParAmericana — Americana in Paris

Paris is a great place to visit for a lot of reasons. We all know the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. But for Americans, there are actually more reasons to visit.

France was the first country to recognize the US as independent from Britain, and actively supported the American Revolution (if only to stick it to the Brits :-). It’s not an exaggeration to say that the US would not have won the war without French help, and reminders of these ties are sprinkled all over Paris. Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, and Monroe all spent long periods here. The Louisiana Purchase was signed here. The Statue of Liberty was made here. You get the idea.

Here I try to trace some of the things that might interest an American visiting Paris — after they’ve seen the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, of course 🙂
